Spring Break

It’s Monday morning. That should probably be taken into consideration when reading the following comments. I’m likely to be exaggerating all the whiny annoying things that have happened while completely ignoring the good things. That’s my warning for the bitching that’s about to ensue.

We left The City (of which Nowhere is a suburb) at something like three o’clock. In the afternoon. Does anybody see a problem here? Well, to get to our destination in northwest Indiana, it takes approximately 10 hours. So, do the math. Yeah. That puts our time of arrival at about 1 a.m. Joy of joys.

The only real problem with that, to be honest, is that I couldn’t do any of the driving. No one has bothered to teach me how to drive a stick yet, so, Dad had to do all that on his own. That meant he had to be mostly awake through the entirety of the trip. You might think that’s easy, but it’s not so much. I mean, some of us can’t even stay awake while driving a loopy old lady around a large city.

But aside from the minor discomforts of a long road trip, everything was just fine and dandy until we stopped for dinner. We decided on a handy Denny’s in Terre Haute. That was our first mistake. I wasn’t poisoned by the food, as there was no sickness afterwards, but I barely managed to choke it down without being immediately and violently ill. It just wasn’t particularly good, to say the least. Ew. Anyway, enough reliving that traumatic experience. Moving on.

So we left the Den of Food Related Pain and Possible Death at about 11:30 (that’s p.m. for those of us not paying attention). We get about an intersection away from the “restaurant,” and…wait for it…

…the car stalls. In the middle of the intersection. The bitch flat out died, and bluntly refused to restart. After trying to start the car (to no avail) until the light we were sitting under turned red, we figured we’d best get to pushin’. The only bright side to this was when I got out of the car to help push and some random cute guy ran up and offered to help. That meant that a) I didn’t have to do any pushing; and b) I got to watch the cute guy push instead. He was really cute. But when the car was safely pushed into the Planned Parenthood parking lot (I’m sure someone thought we were going to blow the place up or something), Cute Stranger and some other guy who had joined the pushing at some time scampered off. Goodbye, Cute Stranger, and thank you.

Anyway, that was about the most eventful thing that happened. After that I attempted to sleep, or at least I did for a minute or so. I decided my efforts would be best spent keeping Dad awake. We got to Grams’ at about 1:30. w00t.

Ok, it’s not Monday morning anymore, and I’m in a better mood, so things should go better now.

Anyway, when we got to Grams we didn’t do too much. Somehow or another Flea wound up gouging a big chunk of flesh out of my wrist. It bled a lot. Woohoo. We went to bed somewhere around 3 a.m.

We got up between 8 and 10. I wasn’t paying any kind of attention, so I’m not sure exactly. This whole day (Sunday) was fairly uneventful, but for accuracy’s sake I’ll give some recounting.

We ate some kind of “breakfast pizza.” Whatever. It wasn’t particularly remarkable. We then set out for an exciting couple hours of shopping. We went to some value place and bought shoes. As in, Flea and I bought shoes, for ourselves. What the hell is that? We’re up here visiting, by God. Other people are supposed to buy us things. The real kicker is that after the not buying us shoes, she was perfectly willing to buy us random crafty bullshit to keep us occupied over the week. Nice priorities Grams, really.

That was about all that day entailed. Oh, made a feeble attempt at internetting. That didn’t go well. Dialup is such complete bullshit. It should be illegal. For real, no one should have to go through that. So, there will be no updating of the journal until I have something like actual internet access. I’m just archiving all this for the sake of, well, not having to talk to the old folks.

So today we went to Valpo and did some more shopping. My sister and I happened upon the sexiest smelling candles ever created. Honestly. The scent is “Black Tie.” Sweet Jesus they smell good. They smell kind of like some cologne I’ve smelled before, really sexy cologne. Sexiest. Candles. Ever.

Then we went to get hot chocolate. It was some delicious damn hot chocolate, too. More importantly, while fetching the hot chocolate and other chocolate related items, Pat called! He purchased Ben Folds tickets! I’d say that puts him on the list of people whose children I’d be willing to bear. As I mentioned the other day, we’d have cute kids.

Anyway, we wondered around, bought some random stupid things, and had lunch at a pretty decent restaurant. Now we’re back at Grams’ and Dad is playing The Simpsons Hit and Run. Good times.

That’s all for today. I’ve really had a great couple of days. I’ve perhaps whined overly much in this entry. I apologize for that. I’m having a good time up nyah, and I’m totally loving not going to school. I hope everyone else is having a beautiful spring break. I love everyone, and even miss a person or two.
