More Fun Spring Break Adventures

To wrap up the latter portion of my trip, everyone gets to read my random email to Pat, which follows.

Good. Lord.

I've been about internet-less for a couple of days. That was mostly unnecessary, but whatcha gonna do?

Anyway, yesterday (Wednesday) was spent in Valpo with my crazy alcoholic Aunt and Uncle. They have two kids. Goth kid is a couple years younger than me; I think he's a junior. Bitchy Hooker is the same age as my sister. She's also a complete bitch. But their whole family is Catholic to a greater or lesser extent, which seems to lend to alcoholism. My Uncle's gotten at least one DUI that I know of. So, he, my aunt, and my poor poor father all got pretty trashed last night. I think it's safe to say Uncle the Eldest probably should not have driven us home from the restaurant, but I'm more or less helpless in such a situation. You were possibly close to losing your bestest buddy, but I did, in fact, survive. Ugh.

Anyway, since my dad was "slightly inebriated" (I was proud of him for not slurring it) and I can't drive a stick, we had to stay at my aunt and uncle's place. Don't get the wrong impression, this house is amazing. I love it. But dear God, I so didn't want to stay there. But we did. A dog slept on me. My bitch cousin never spoke a single word to me. There was a pretty entertaining scenario where the more tolerable cousin had to chase down a flying squirrel that had somehow entered the house. Good times.

Anyhow, we went to Chicago today. Hell fucking yes. It was about damn time. We really didn't get to do too awfully much, largely due to leaving late, due to my father's pathetic hungover condition.

We went to the Field Museum! Woo! There was a pretty nifty Oriental blah blah exhibit. Like I don't see that shit everyday at TUNA. I enjoyed it, nonetheless. Then we went to Chinatown. That was good times. We roamed around the trashy shops looking at all the things I had absolutely no money to buy. Then my totally awesome hippie Great Aunt and hippie-ish cousin met us for dinner. Oh, I meant to throw in that we had lunch at the Corner Bakery in the Field Museum. It was good, but fucking expensive. Anyway, we ate at Penang's. It was Malaysian or somesuch thing. It was pretty good.

More importantly, we somehow wound up talking about how I'd denounced my religion. Hippie Aunt practically applauded. She's not a big fan of organized religion. Hippie Cousin was also impressed. They asked me why I did it. I explained that I'd somehow turned in the opposite direction, leaving Mormonism to become a gay rights advocate. They practically did a dance. Hippie Cousin is the cousin that used to lecture my sister and me for saying "That's so gay." Really. It pissed her off. I'm not entirely sure why, but still. Anyway, she wants me to come to Chicago this summer for the Pride Parade. That was all fun and at least vaguely entertaining.

Anyway, I guess I need to wrap this up. Grams is looking at me funny and making comments about how I'm "writing a novel." The basic point is that I'm having a fangoriously wonderful time. Chicago was awesome. It was all kinds of cloudy, so you couldn't see the tops of any of the buildings, which was really pretty cool. I mean, I've seen the skyline before. It was cool to not see it even though I was in the middle of it.

Is it wrong for me to miss you? Not like pining away or anything, just blandly aware of your non-presence? My mother would say something about inappropriate emotional attachments. She's a bitch. Anyway, I do kinda miss you. Hope everything's going gorgeously in University Town. Don't burn anything down. Tell those Danville bastards to get their shit together. Hi to the bf, etc.

Love,

Megan
