I was just thinking that I've practically become prolific again. I'm writing on a near bi-daily basis. Does that mean every other day? I think it does, but I could always be wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong. My sociology class is full of bigots. We discussed homosexuality, abuse, and a number of other topics today. At one point we talked about common law marriage. Some girl said, "My friends Dad is living with another man in Las Vegas [collective sound of disgust from nearly entire class], so does that make them common law married?" Then there were a number of comments made about the general horribleness of homosexuality. I'm sure they were all of the consensus that it's a "big honkin' sin." I cried a little inside. Of course, the same people refused to acknowledge that there is an abuse-awareness problem on our campus, by which I mean that students (and some faculty) refuse to acknowledge that things like domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and sexual assault actually happen. They do. People on our campus flat out refused to take white ribbons for the recent White Ribbon Campaign. If you're too lazy to click the link, the basic idea is that you wear a white ribbon to show your support in ending violence against women. People were told the significance of the ribbons...and refused them. Men, women, faculty, staff, students, all races, colors, and creeds. What the hell is wrong with people? Do they want women to be beaten and kept under the authority of males? I'm typically not that militant, but c'mon already people. This is the kind of thing about which you should GIVE A FUCK. It's important. It affects you. PAY ATTENTION. Bah. So that's my rant for today. It, in and of itself, is also important. You should pay attention. Oh well.
