imwithjonas's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just Flat Broke Just Flat BrokeFinancially, I’ve been in tight places in the past. I’ve had my fair share of days when I couldn’t afford to eat anything but cafeteria food. I’ve had to beg for gas money once or twice. But I think I’ve officially hit bottom. In the past two months, I’ve bounced three or four checks. I never intended to bounce any checks. It just kind of happened. I just sort of woke up without any money one day. My cell phone has officially exploded. Until I scrape up $120, I have no portable means of communication. Also, I can’t afford to take any classes this summer. Until this Friday, I’m scheduled to take 13 hours this summer, class-wise. I must deliver $1900 to 80MAU by this Friday, or my precious 13 hours of class related things will disappear. Needless to say, I don’t have $1900. I also don’t have credit. I also don’t have any credit-worthy relatives to con into co-signing for me. I’m totally screwed. I have to stay here! I can’t go back home! Home is the devil! It’s filthy and smelly, rather like a dungeon. It’s also full of people who will expect me to be civil to them. I don’t like civility! I CAN’T GO HOME! Sorry about that. I imagine it’s stress related. So I don’t have any money. I can’t take any classes this summer. I don’t have a place to live in University Town, and I can’t live in my former home. On the (vaguely) up side, I have a job! Woo! I’m a proud employee of a fine family eating establishment. I get to smile at surly old people and give them endless cups of coffee at their special senior’s discount price. I get to sweep and clean things. I have to clean bathrooms with paper towels. I receive a magnificent $5.50 an hour for all my hard work. My hard work also involves a ridiculous, and currently painful, uniform. Bright red just doesn’t suit me, people. Quit making me wear it. It brings out the more violent shades of pink in my natural coloring. And my damn shoes better get here quick-like, because my feet are severely displeased. I have a secure residence in the dorms until May 31. At that point, I guess I’ll wind up living in my car. I mean, I can’t go home. I have a job. I can’t disappoint all those nice people. Really. Help me! Please! Someone! Anyone! At least advise me on how best to sleep in a car heaped with all my stuff. In random points of interest, yesterday was an historic landmark. The great state of Massachusetts began legally marrying same-sex couples. People around the nation are either celebrating of mourning the death of “traditional values.” Doesn’t celebrating make more sense? Also, The Practice ended Sunday. I admit I haven’t followed the show religiously, but this season was pretty damn hilarious on a regular basis. The finale was a little disappointing, in my opinion. I’ll survive though. I’ll be fairly impressed if they can manage two spin-offs from that trash. Jerry Orbach is leaving Law & Order. Sad day. I guess I’ll just stick with the reruns on TNT. And I’ll still have ultra-hot Chris Meloni on SVU. Ah, the changing of times is always a little depressing. For future reference, Lutherans are crazy. They did a lot of accusing my former religion of idol worship. Now, as much as the Mormons deserve some ridicule, I really don’t see this idolatry thing. They compared Mormons to Jehovah’s Witnesses! Criminy! I know Mormons don’t deserve that. Play nice now, kids. As a final note, I get to paint my former professor and eternal role model’s dining room this week. Woo! I’m looking forward to all kinds of entertainment value in that. Oh, and I am pleased to announce my new Regular Updates on Tuesday and Saturday plan. But you can think of it as Wednesday and Sunday if you like. I tend to do things pretty late in the evening/early in the morning. I’ll even manage something more poignant and less random for Saturday. That’s a promise. 11:54 p.m. - May 18, 2004 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
